Two men were inside the SUV when it crashed. The passenger escaped and will be fine, said Genevieve Judge, public information officer.

The driver was trapped in the vehicle, though, she said, and at least two officers jumped into the dark water to help him. At first, they were unsuccessful when attempting to pull him out by his leg. The officers cut the seatbelt and were able to pull the man from the water. Sarasota County Emergency Services brought him to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
