Stressed? Soak It Away In a Beer Bath

A Florida spa has begun offering the treatments, which its owner says are medicinal.

Ponce de Leon may not have found the Fountain of Youth in Florida, but a Boca Raton spa owner says she has.

Gayle Wentworth, owner of Maui Spa and Wellness Center in South Florida, has begun offering her clients beer baths. That’s right – beer baths.

Wentworth says the ingredients that make up the best beers also have beauty and health benefits, as well. With that in mind, the spa has launched a new line of services that draw on the ingredients found in beer – hops, yeast and barley, among others.

“We look forward to blazing a trail in our industry here in the U.S. by mastering the use of these ingredients and delivering a new level of relaxation and health to our clientele,” Wentworth was quoted in a media release as saying.

Those services she’s referencing include a beer bath that is offered in a copper tub and beer-themed body wraps and facial scrubs.

The ingredients used in Maui Spa’s new treatments are guaranteed fresh, the release points out. That’s because they come from her brother, Greg Wentworth, who happens to own Big Bear Brewing Company in Coral Springs.

While similar services are offered in Europe, the beer-bath craze has yet to catch on in America, the media release states. It also claims the ingredients found in beer – and beer baths – can help treat headaches, chronic arthritis and respiratory disease, among other ailments, while nourishing nails, hair and skin.

The treatments set back customers about $80 for 50 minutes, which includes a trip to the sauna and a beer bath, WPBF reported.

“It’s good for insomnia, anxiety, and it’s good for irritability,” the station quoted Wentworth as saying. “It’s good for acne and lesions. Your skin feels soft forever... I think I have found the fountain of youth.”
