SARASOTA, FL -- Sarasota Police officers have arrested a Sarasota man after a traffic stop led to the seizure of 20 grams of marijuana and the recovery of a stolen firearm.

Dariente L. Singletary, 20, of Palmadelia Avenue, Sarasota, has been charged with carrying a concealed firearm (felony), possession of marijuana with intent to sell/manufacture/deliver (felony) and resisting an officer with violence (felony).

On October 26 at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers were traveling on Leon Avenue in Sarasota and observed a driver commit several traffic violations. They pulled Singletary over and, after refusing commands and then resisting arrest, he was placed in a patrol car while officers searched the car he was driving.

They found a 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine and nine rounds of ammunition (this firearm was later listed as stolen out of the Manatee County Sheriff's Office); 20.8 grams of marijuana; $2,275 in U.S. currency (an additional $6,400 was found in Singletary's pockets) for a total of $8,675; a digital scale; two cell phones; and clear plastic sandwich bags (commonly used to package and sell narcotics).

Singletary was transported to the Sarasota County Jail where he later bonded out.
