TX Man Who Drowns At FL Beach Found Facedown Near Shore
The body of a Texas man who drowned at Venice Beach was found facedown near the shoreline, officials said.
VENICE, FL — A Texas man drowned Saturday morning at Venice Beach near 101 The Esplanade, city officials said in a news release.
The victim, Wesley Wilcox, 47, was pulled in by several beachgoers.
Witnesses said that Wilcox, who was alone at the time of the incident, put his bag down on the sand and walked into the water.

He was later found facedown in the water near the shoreline before being pulled ashore, officials said.

Sarasota County lifeguards and Venice Fire Rescue paramedics tried to perform lifesaving efforts but were unable to revive Wilcox. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Venice police found his Texas driver’s license and identified him. They also found keys belonging to a car later located in the area.
The investigation into his drowning death is ongoing.
