Underground Grow House Unearthed in Florida
The unusual creation was made possible due to the home's unique design, Lee County Sheriff's deputies say.

Finding a home with a basement in Florida is rare enough thanks to the peninsula’s high water table in most areas. But, finding an underground grow house is even more of an oddity.
That, however, is exactly what took place in Lee County’s Lehigh Acres, on the state’s west coast, Thursday.
Acting on a tip, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigated a possible grow house location at 503 Scott Ave.

“After numerous indicators of a grow house were observed, a search warrant was obtained to enter the residence,” a media release on the unusual find stated. “Once inside, deputies uncovered an elaborate underground marijuana cultivation operation.”
Courtesy of the home’s design, it was feasible for residents to dig below the foundation to create an area perfect for growing “large amounts of marijuana beneath the house,” the sheriff’s office release said.

The crafty growers cut ports into the home’s floor and covered them with carpeting to gain access to their elaborate operation.
All told, the sheriff’s office seized about 31 live plants. They weighed a combined total of 118.2 pounds and have an estimated street value of nearly $100,000.
While the operation has been shut down, deputies say they haven’t found the industrious souls responsible for the creation just yet.
Anyone who might have information about the house and its occupants is asked to call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 239-477-1000.
