Stolen Camaro Recovered 15 Years Later
The sports car had been submerged in a Florida lake since 1999.

Pasco County Sheriffβs deputies who took to the sky last Wednesday to search for stolen vehicles in the New Port Richey area ended up closing a 15-year-old case.
As they were wrapping up their search for recently swiped cars to head back to the Land Oβ Lakes hanger, one of the deputies on board the departmentβs helicopter spotted something interesting in a lake near Trouble Creek and Rowan roads. A car, he noted, was submerged in the water.
βThe following day, a dive team entered the water and discovered a white, 1992 Chevrolet Camaro with orange racing stripes,β the sheriffβs officeβs FacebookΒ page stated. The carβs interior was caked in mud and a few plants had started growing inside.

Once recovered, the old car was traced back to a case that dated from Sept. 22, 1999. A dealership in the area had reported the vehicle stolen.
The car remained unnoticed until last week because heavy commercial and residential development, along with a good tree cover, kept the vehicle hidden from plain view all that time, the sheriffβs office stated.
