I love crafty people. I’d never think to turn a block of Himalayan salt into a desk lamp or recycled wine corks into a wine holder or wall wreath. Therefore, I respect the imagination of our local Florida artisans. Recently, I got to visit the Muse Galleria when dropping off a few of my Acting Out Yoga books for their children’s book section. I became completely enamored with the little gallery as I wandered from room to room scoping out the various custom gifts. There began my quest for finding other places that featured fabulous creations.
Whether you’re on vacation looking for unique souvenirs to bring home with you or are a local scoping out something just a little bit different, take a look at what some of our Sarasota/Bradenton artists and artisans have to offer.

Her hand-painted Girlfriend Glasses ($12) are wine glasses that can be customized to match the hair, eyes and look of the person you are giving it to. It’s a great option as a holiday, birthday, or even as a bridesmaid gift. She can also customize hand-painted wine goblets, cordials, hot drink glasses and lighted bottles. Heart’s Desire – Heart’s Desire in the Village of the Arts in Bradenton features custom gifts from many different artists. Here, you’ll find some modestly priced items, such as the monogrammed coasters ($16 for a set of four) made with tumbled Italian stone and Purse Rocks ($20), purse decorations or key holders made with semiprecious stones and beads.
Among my favorites are the lariat-style necklaces (~$85) that can be made to match your favorite outfit or color. They are made with semiprecious stones, shell, freshwater pearls and other elements. I also loved the cashmere Pashmina shawls ($75), imprinted with a peacock, orchid or dragonfly and embellished with Swarovski crystals. These are available in turquoise, black, white, tan or crème.
