Watch: Sarasota Marine Deputies Rescue Boaters In Capsized Canoe

The boaters were in a canoe about two miles off Turtle Beach when it capsized.

SARASOTA, FL -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has released a video of the department's marine deputies and helicopter pilot rescuing two boaters stranded in the Gulf of Mexico about two miles from Turtle Beach Saturday, March 3.

The boaters were in a canoe Saturday afternoon when it capsized. They clung to the overturned canoe and activated a personal locator beacon that was picked up by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard alerted the sheriff's office, which dispatched its aviation unit to look for the boaters around 4:30 p.m. The helicopter pilot located the boaters about two miles offshore and directed marine deputies to their location.
