SARASOTA, FL — For the third year in a row, Sarasota Police Department rocked out to Trans-Siberian Orchestra in a video celebrating the holiday season.

The department flashed their patrol lights in time with the band’s performance of “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo” in the fun video, which was shared on social media.

In 2019, the agency used the song “Wizards in Winter” in their first Christmas video, and “A Mad Russian’s Christmas” the following year.

The tradition started when one of the patrol officers approached Genevieve Judge, the department’s public information officer, “with an idea to try and do a patrol car lights video synced to music,” she said.

First, she reached out to Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s management group for permission to use their songs. The band has given Sarasota police permission to use their music every year since.

This year, five police cars were used to film the holiday music video.

“My husband and I filmed about 60 (to) 75 different video sequences and then my husband volunteered to help edit all the videos together to synch with the song,” Judge said.

She added, “We’ve had fun with it.”
