WEDU, South Florida Museum Host Free Screening Of PBS Series

Guest Speaker, Seminole Artist Elgin Jumper - Following WEDU PBS Film Screening of Native America

SARASOTA, FL -- WEDU PBS, in partnership with the South Florida Museum, will host a free film screening of NATIVE AMERICA a new four-part series from Providence Pictures on October 30 at 7:00 p.m.

Weaving history and science with living Indigenous traditions, the series brings to life a land of massive cities connected by social networks spanning two continents, with unique and sophisticated systems of science, art and writing. Made with the active participation of Native American communities and filmed in some of the most spectacular locations in the hemisphere, NATIVE AMERICA illuminates the splendor of a past whose story has for too long remained untold.

A preview segment of the series will be shown in the Bishop Planetarium. Following the screening of the film, guests will hear from Seminole Artist Elgin Jumper. A member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, Jumper is a poet, a short story writer, an essayist and an artist.

The screening event begins at 7:00 p.m. and is free. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Tickets can be reserved online at www.wedu.org/native-america. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available for purchase at The Bishop Planetarium concession stand. Funding support is provided by the Anne Ray Foundation, A Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropy and Seminole Tribe of Florida Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, South Florida Museum, Tampa Theatre, The James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art.

NATIVE AMERICA will air on WEDU PBS beginning Tuesday, October 23rd at 9:00 p.m. and will conclude with two episodes on November 13th at 9:00 p.m. The series will stream for free following each episode on all WEDU PBS platforms. Following the on-air broadcast, the series will also be available on WEDU Passport.
