SARASOTA, FL — A Sarasota woman faces charges related to a fatal shooting over the weekend, according to a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Courtney Leigh Wadeck, 44, was charged with second-degree murder without premeditation.
Just before midnight Sunday, deputies were called to a home near Beneva and Clark roads for a reported shooting, the sheriff’s office said. When they arrived, they found an unresponsive woman on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to her chest.

Sarasota County Fire Department medics tried to save her, but she died from her injuries. She was pronounced dead around 12:30 a.m.

Two witnesses told investigators that Wadeck and the victim got into a physical altercation during a disagreement about living conditions.

They tried unsuccessfully to intervene in the fight and minutes later, heard a gunshot from the living room. They saw the victim wall to the floor after being shot, the sheriff’s office said.

Wadeck is in custody without bond at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility.
