5 Places to Shop for a Father's Day Gift in Central Tampa

Stumped for ideas on where to shop for Dad this year? Seminole Heights Patch has picked some of the neighborhood's most unique shops.

Contrary to popular belief, fathers are not easy to shop for. The department stores try to make shopping for Father's Day about buying up leather wallets, dress shirts and coffee mugs screen printed with "World's Greatest Dad."

But honestly, do you think Dad really wants another neck tie promoting wildlife conservation, that he will enjoy a shoe shine kit or that he really needs one more set of neon golf balls (especially if he doesn't play)?

That's why Patch has culled some of Central Tampa's most unique — and definitely dad-oriented — places for Father's Day gift ideas.

  1. This family-owned business is the source for the serious fisher. It has a large warehouse of rods, reels and tackle. It also offers frozen bait as well as T-shirts and caps. In addition, Southeastern can repair your rod or reel.

  2. Vélo Champ is a boutique bicycle shop located at Hanna and Central Avenues in the heart of Seminole Heights. The shop sells an array of bicycles, parts and accessories to cyclists throughout the Tampa Bay area. Shop owner Jordan Miller also makes repairs and can help fit you for a bike that's sized exactly right for you. His shop celebrates the culture of cycling, and Miller consults heavily with each customer to find him or her the right bike to ride and enjoy.

  3. This is the neighborhood's one-stop shop for music equipment and comic book needs. If Dad ever played guitar in a garage band or is an X-Men or Avengers devotee, then this is the right place to look for his Father's Day gift. On the store's music side, Green Shift carries guitars, amps, mixing boards and much more. On the comic book side, it has new comics weekly, used comics and collectibles.

  4. Yes, a vintage furniture store can be the perfect place to find a Father's Day gift! What dad wouldn't enjoy his own "man cave" done over with retro style furniture or a "Mad Men" themed game room? How about sprucing up his den or home office with a vintage desk made of real wood? Every dad needs a place in the home that's just for him.

  5. Craft beer + a gift card. Need I say more? OK, how about the fact that this Father's Day falls on the same day as the pub's monthly Sunday School for Sinners featuring a bluegrass jam at 4 p.m. followed by a performance by the band Ramblegrass.
