1 Killed In Crash During Suspected Street Race On I-75: Police
The victim, a 40-year-old Ruskin man, was a passenger in one of the cars when the crash happened around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A Ruskin man died Tuesday in a crash during a suspected street race on Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Police said the crash happened shortly before 6:50 p.m. on northbound I-75 near the Big Bend Road exit. The driver of a 2010 Infiniti G37, identified by authorities as a 45-year-old man from Ruskin, was racing with the driver of a white or cream-colored Dodge Charger when the Infiniti collided with another car, police said.
According to authorities, the driver of the Infiniti tried to pass a 2014 Chevy Volt on the outside shoulder and collided with the car as he tried to move back into the center lane. Police said the Volt was hit on the front left side before both vehicles lost control and stopped on the road's outside shoulder.

According to police, the Infiniti hit a traffic sign during the crash. The passenger, whom police identified as a 40-year-old man from Ruskin, was killed in the crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.
The driver of the Infiniti sustained minor injuries in the crash, police said.

The driver of the Volt, a 34-year-old woman from Ocala, was not hurt, police said.
