2 COVID-19 Testing Sites To Close In Tampa As Number Of New Cases Decline In FL: City

With new COVID-19 cases on the decline in Hillsborough County and FL, the city of Tampa plans to close two coronavirus testing sites.

TAMPA, FL — With the number of new COVID-19 cases on the decline, the city of Tampa said it will close two coronavirus testing sites.

In Hillsborough County, 8590 new cases and a 19.4 percent new case positivity rate was reported between Jan. 28 and Feb. 3, according to the Florida Department of Health’s COVID-19 Weekly Situation Report.

“With continuing cases rates decreasing and the increased capability of private pharmacies, healthcare providers and home testing kits available to now meet the demand for COVID-19 testing, the city of Tampa will be closing our Al Lopez and Al Barnes COVID-19 Testing Sites,” the city said in a news release.

The testing site at Al Lopez Park will close for good Saturday at 7 p.m., while the Al Barnes Park testing site will shut down Feb. 26.

Testing is still available through the following sites operated by Hillsborough County:

  • West Tampa Community Resource Center, 2103 N. Rome Ave., Tampa. Offers walk-up testing indoors daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Progress Village Park, 8701 Progress Blvd., Tampa. Offers walk-up testing indoors daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Hillsborough Community College in Brandon, 10451 Nancy Watkins Drive, Tampa. Offers drive-thru testing daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Adventure Island, 10001 N. McKinley Drive, Tampa. Offers drive-thru testing daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
