FLORIDA — With the holidays rolling around, on Monday, Amazon announced it is hiring people for 150,000 seasonal jobs across the U.S. including 10,500 in Florida, with starting pay of $18 per hour.

The seasonal roles in Florida are in addition to the 8,000 full- and part-time operations jobs Amazon announced in September will be available in Florida as the multinational e-commerce company founded by billionaire Jeff Bezos continues a major expansion in the Sunshine State.

“We are proud to be offering a huge range of full-time, part-time and now seasonal jobs with great pay and benefits,” said Alicia Boler Davis, senior vice president of global customer fulfillment. “Our seasonal hiring helps us deliver on our promises to customers while also providing flexibility to our full-time employees during busy periods. Joining Amazon in one of our seasonal roles offers high-paying, part-time work or a path to a full-time position, with benefits like our Career Choice program to help people advance their education and careers within Amazon or beyond.”

Jobs in Amazon’s operations network include stowing, picking, packing, shipping and more. New hires will be fully trained and all facilities follow strict COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

Seasonal employees will help support full-time employees across more than 250 new fulfillment centers, sortation centers, regional air hubs, and delivery stations that opened in the U.S. in 2021.

States with the greatest number of seasonal roles include: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.

In the meantime, Amazon is preparing to open a 465,000-square-foot warehouse at 8727 Harney Road in Temple Terrace.

Amazon Regional Director of Operations Robert Packett said the facility will use state-of-the-art robotics to get packages to customers faster.

“This is a real game changer for the city of Temple Terrace. Hundreds of jobs and some of these people will live in the city of Temple Terrace. This is a real benefit for the area,” said Temple Terrace Mayor Andy Ross.

"We've been watching this building go up for almost one year," said Temple Terrace Mayor Andy Ross during a sneak peek at the new facility. "This is a game changer for the city of Temple Terrace. We couldn't be more excited."

Amazon is hiring 1,000 associates to operate the fulfillment center at an average starting wage of more than $18 per hour.

The company also provides full-time employees comprehensive benefits from the first day, worth an additional $3.50 per hour, including health, vision and dental insurance, 401(k) with a 50 percent company match, up to 20 weeks of paid parental leave and Amazon's Career Choice program, in which the company will pay full college tuition for its frontline employees as part of a $1.2 billion investment to expand education and skills training benefits for its U.S. workforce.

The Temple Terrace facility will be the second robotic fulfillment center to serve Tampa Bay and the eighth in Florida. Amazon opened a fulfillment center in Ruskin in 2014.

"Being closer to the customer is the key reason why we're right here," Packett said. "This will allow us to have better prime service and eventually get to same-day, which is the fastest potential shipping method that we have with Amazon."

This month, Amazon also broke ground on a 40,000-square-foot delivery station at 6105 45th St. N. in Pinellas Park.

Amazon plans to open five new delivery stations in the state "to power the last mile of Amazon's order process and help increase efficiency of deliveries for customers."

Delivery stations also offer entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own business delivering Amazon packages.

Additionally, the company is set to open a 110,000-square-foot, $40 million delivery station at the northeast corner of State Road 54 and the Suncoast Parkway in Lutz, providing more than 300 new full- and part-time jobs.

Over the summer, Amazon announced the construction of a delivery station at 13010 Bay Industrial Drive in Gibsonton and at 2200 Tallevast Road in Sarasota as well as in Fort Myers, Coral Springs, Riviera Beach and Melbourne.

Amazon is opening new fulfillment centers in Tallahassee and Port St. Lucie as well.

Facilities are already operating in Jacksonville, Davenport, Orlando, Miami, Venice, Ruskin and Lakeland.
