Tampa-Area Woman Killed In Head-On Crash In AL, Troopers Say (patch.com) — Residents in Tampa's eastern suburbs are mourning a 24-year-old Valrico woman who died in a head-on collision Wednesday night in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. State troopers say her Kia K4 struck a Ford F-150 on U.S. Highway 82, killing her at the scene and injuring the Alabama pickup driver, who was taken to a local hospital as the investigation continues.
2. 15-Year-Old, 12-Year-Old Arrested After Loaded Gun Brought To Tampa School: Reports (patch.com) — Parents and students at Robinson High School in Tampa are on edge after police say a 15-year-old was found carrying a loaded gun on campus Tuesday, following a tip to the school resource officer. No threats were made at the school, but a related off-campus fight led to a 12-year-old's arrest for allegedly pointing a flare gun and making shooting threats.
3. Police: Bucs Hall of Famer Warren Sapp disrupts Tampa council meeting (tampabay.com) — Tampa residents saw Thursday's City Council meeting abruptly paused after former Buccaneers star Warren Sapp entered City Hall and was deemed disruptive during debate over a controversial South Tampa flood-prevention project. Council members briefly locked chamber doors and recessed while police escorted him out, then resumed the meeting as attendees waited inside.
4. South Howard Flood Relief Project passes Tampa City Council in narrow vote, opponents explore legal action (tampabay28.com) — Tampa City Council has narrowly approved the nearly $100 million South Howard Flood Relief Project, aiming to reduce chronic flooding in South Tampa neighborhoods like Parkland Estates and Palma Pines and protect access to nearby hospitals. Supporters say more than 1,000 homes will see less street flooding, while many SoHo business owners warn construction could devastate revenues and are considering legal action.
5. Scuba diver finds hope in Tampa after stroke-like emergency: 'I had to come up from zero' (fox13news.com) — A scuba diver who suffered a rare, stroke-like injury while diving in the Bahamas rebuilt his life through intensive therapy at Tampa General Hospital's Rehabilitation Hospital. After relearning basic skills like walking and feeding himself, he's now back to golfing and plans to regularly visit the Tampa rehab facility to encourage other patients facing long recoveries.
