TAMPA, FL — Two Tampa police officers and a suspect were injured Monday when a responding officer accidentally struck them with a police vehicle while the officers were taking the suspect into custody during a narcotics investigation, authorities said.
Officers with the Tampa Police Department's Opioid Taskforce were serving an arrest warrant in the 2300 block of East Busch Avenue when the incident occurred, the department said in a news release.
During the arrest attempt, the suspect ran away, and officers instructed the person to get on the ground. As officers were taking the suspect into custody, another officer arrived in a police vehicle and unintentionally struck the officers and suspect while driving into a parking lot, police said.
The two officers and the suspect were taken to a hospital for treatment. Their injuries were not life-threatening, according to the department.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
Police haven't released additional details about the suspect or the narcotics investigation.
