Attempted Homicide Under Investigation

A man has been charged in the case.

A 20-year-old Tampa man faces armed burglary and attempted homicide charges following a Wednesday night shooting.

According to the Tampa Police Department, officers were called out to 2703 Wilder Ave. W. around 10:05 p.m. about a burglary. When they arrived, they found a man with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen and a suspect fleeing the scene.

A foot chase occurred, followed by the suspect’s capture. Police recovered the gun and found narcotics on the man. Police say the victim and the suspect got into an altercation that ended with the victim being shot once in the abdomen.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and is now listed in critical condition, police say.

Dagoberto Cuevas of West Crest Avenue was charged with armed burglary and attempted homicide in the case. He was being held at the Hillsborough County Jail Thursday afternoon.
