Boyfriend Charged in Tampa Woman's Murder

Police say a domestic dispute turned violent.

A 56-year-old Tampa man faces first-degree murder charges after police say he killed his live-in girlfriend.

According to the Tampa Police Department, James Ware, was charged in the death of Denise Cogman, 60, Tuesday night. Cogman’s body was found inside a locked room in her 2108 W. LaSalle St. home Monday after family members reported her missing.

A search was launched for Ware and Cogman’s vehicle. That search ended around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when Ware was brought into custody.

Cogman’s vehicle has also been recovered, police announced in an email to media about Ware’s arrest.

“Detectives have determined that the murder was the result of a domestic argument and that the defendant made admissions to the offense,” the email stated.

Ware was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. He remained their Wednesday without bond.
