The Florida Wiener Dog Derby, Inc, is a Florida event based all-volunteer 501C3 fundraiser for local dachshund and animal rescue. In a calendar year, we host at least ten different competition events within the state of Florida, which raise money for designated nonprofits. Our fundraising event, held in conjunction with Tampa Riverfest, is scheduled to be held on Saturday May 3, 2025. The Florida Wiener Dog Derby, expects at least 10,000 spectators and we host about 300 registered dogs to compete in different talent and obedience based contests, not to mention the main event, which is Florida's & the WORLDs LARGEST Dachshund Derby and gathering. For our 2025 Derby, we are celebrating fifteen years of family fun and raising money for two local guest rescues: Skyway Dachshund Rescue, and DARE Dachshund Adoption Rescue and Education.
There are 8 total racing divisions, 7 of which are restricted to dachshunds: a Super Senior Sausages (age 10+), Blind and Deaf Dachshund Race, and a Wheelie Dog race (Chariots of Fire). 1 racing division, Wiener Wannabe, is open to all small & medium dog breeds (under 40ish pounds who fit in our gates). There are 5 additional fun contests open to all breeds: Best Kisser, Best Tail, Best Nose, speed Trap and the P-Nut Butter Lick. The Event is Free to attend and open to the public. Contest entry fees start at $7 and there is a VIP package option. All race registration must be completed on line by April 29th.
For maximum fundraising, we do a HUGE all day raffle & silent auction with product and ticket donations and also hold a silent auction. We offer a variety of items not just aimed for pet use/consumption. Since we are part of a large family food and music festival, we have a greater ability to fundraise by offering a little something for everyone! All event proceeds are donated to Skyway Dachshund Rescue and DARE Rescue. Volunteer opportunities for those interested!
