Car Crashes Into Waffle House In Tampa, Injuring 5 People

Five people were injured, two critically, Tampa Fire Rescue said.

TAMPA, FL — Multiple people were injured Sunday when a pickup truck careened into a Waffle House restaurant in Tampa, authorities said.

Tampa Fire Rescue responded at 2:10 p.m. Sunday to reports of a vehicle crashing into a building at Waffle House, 3009 W. Columbus Drive.

Fire personnel arrived to find a pickup truck hit the building, seriously injuring one adult and one child.

The adult and child were rushed to hospitals for treatment of traumatic injuries, fire officials said.

Three other people suffered minor injuries, fire officials said.

According to Tampa Fire Rescue, the driver was attempting to park his vehicle on the west side of the Waffle House. As he pulled in, he pressed on the gas instead of the brake, driving his vehicle through the west side of the building. The truck came to rest inside the occupied restaurant.

The Tampa Police Department is investigating the crash.
