Chefs To Whip Up 260-Foot-Long Cuban Sandwich At Sunday Festival

YBOR CITY, FL — Cuban sandwich lovers are in for a big treat Sunday — "big" being the operational word.

The Latin Times Media Co. will host its 11th annual Ford Cuban Sandwich Festival featuring the world's longest Cuban sandwich.

Cuban sandwich makers from around Tampa Bay will form an assembly line and put together a 260-foot-long Cuban sandwich made with traditional ingredients at Centennial Park in Ybor City Sunday, May 29 from noon to 6 p.m.

The giant Cuban sandwich will then be cut up and distributed to Tampa Bay nonprofits to feed the homeless.

The current world's record was set May 1 at the Kissimmee Cuban Sandwich Festival with a 255-foot Cuban sandwich that fed more than 600 people.

The gargantuan sandwich will be among the featured activities at the festival, which will feature 20 of Tampa Bay's top Cuban sandwich shops vying for top billing for best Cuban sandwich.

Hosted by Ford, the Ybor City Development Corp., the city of Tampa, the Hispanic Resource Family Cultural Center, the Ybor City State Museum, Florida State Parks, Telemundo and other sponsors, the free event will feature music by Orchestra Fuego and dance performances and plenty of Cuban food on three streets in Ybor City.

Those attending will have an opportunity to vote on their favorite Cuban sandwich vendor here.

The winner of the Ford Cuban Sandwich Festival will receive a "golden ticket" to compete in the World Food Championships.
