Cigar City Gas Leak Leads to Hazmat Call Out

Update April 21 2:55 p.m.: Tampa Fire Rescue reported the leak had been secured just before 3 p.m.

Tampa Fire Rescue is on the scene of a gas leak reported in the alley between Cigar City Cider and Mead restaurant and Czar in Ybor City.

The leak occurred Tuesday afternoon when a well drilling operation accidentally struck a gas main, an email to media from the fire department stated. Fire rescue and TECO are on the scene working to stop the leak.

Nearby buildings have been evacuated and 15th Street between 7th and 8th avenues is closed to traffic, according to the fire department.
