Community Organization, Voice of the People Opens Up Conversation

On October 17, 2020, with the election just around the corner, the community organization, Voice of the People, Straight Talk, No Chaser, will host its first of many online town halls, conversations about vital topics such as voter rights and voter suppression of people of color.

The community event founded by longtime friends, Johnny A. Green, Sr. and Franklin Hills, Jr. will be stream lived on Facebook at 7 PM.

“I can no longer stand silent while our democracy and social justice are being jeopardized,” said Green, Sr.

Their mission is to empower the voice of the people and spread ideas through engaging conversations that will speak truth to power.

While their vision is of a community of peace, inclusion, and justice, this presidency, coupled with the pandemic, has further exposed continuing inequalities and systemic oppression regularly faced by people of color.

The partners will showcase guest speakers from local racial justice and peace organizations to amplify their message and educate voters of their legal rights.

The pair hopes the participants come out of the town hall with a better understanding of the value of social discourse and critical thinking concerning securing progress in a democratic society. In the end, only unity and engaged participation will make change happen.

“Let us as Americans learn how to peacefully disagree, as opposed to creating deep divisions through disagreement,” said Hills, Jr. “Peaceful disagreement promotes and protects our democracy. The latter destroys it.”
