District South Kitchen & Craft Where Classic Meets Elevated
Great Spot to Nosh in South Tampa

So many new restaurants to visit in Tampa Bay. We call them the shiny new pennies and www.tampabayfoodtours.com is excited to visit them all after some of the hoopla and crowds die down.
For now, we find ourselves gravitating to what has become a favorite spot. District South Kitchen & Craft | Restaurant | Bar | Brunch | Tampa, FL (districtsouthtampa.com). District has two locations in Tampa. The have been a staple in The Chanel District and have a small inviting place on South Dale Mabry which has been our go to.
Their tag line of classic meets elevated is very fitting. The menu features a wide variety of dishes that feature the finest ingredients such breads from local Jameson B Breadhouse. There is a respectable selection of craft cocktails, wines, domestic and craft beer. Side bar -great happy hour Mon-Fri 3-6:00.

You can tell a lot about the kitchen by their soups. District's handcrafted soups inspired by seasonal ingredients have a restorative property to them that feels nurturing.
Lunch and dinner menus feature a half dozen creative salads that can be upgraded with proteins. The salad we enjoyed on our last visit is not on the menu but from memory.

Roasted beets, arugula, spinach, red onion, strawberries and blue cheese.

The potato leek daily soup special evoked the forementioned gratifying comfort one wants from soup.

The exceptional roast beef and gruyere sandwich was featured as the special of the day and we would love to see it on the menu permanently. The handheld / sandwich menu items are served with fries, but you can add a cup of soup for $4.00. For this sandwich the creamy satisfying tomato bisque was the perfect accompaniment.

Tampa has many a Cuban sandwich stand outs and we would put District's version in the ring.
Cubano -mojo pork, salami, ham, Swiss, pickles, mayo, mustard, Cuban bread with a tasty side Ceasar salad.

Moving on to entrees we are excited to go back and try the elevated classics like the meatloaf and bone-in pork chops. The dish that stood out that we tried was the Braised pork belly with Parisian gnocchi (French style gnocchi made with Pate a choux) roasted zucchini, tomato gravy and cracklins. A tasty example of global fusion cuisine with delicious results.

Looking forward to also visiting for the weekend brunch which has elevated breakfast items and $25.00 bottomless mimosas!
