A 15-year-old charged in the fatal shooting of another teen was found after escaping from a juvenile detention center, Tampa police said.

TAMPA, FL — A teenage inmate facing a murder charge who escaped from the Hillsborough Regional Juvenile Detention Center Sunday morning was found and taken into custody that night, the Tampa Police Department said in a news release.

Jahmir Moore, 15, who was initially arrested Dec. 4, is being charged with murder as an adult in the April 17 fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy, Jevario Buie, in the 1300 block of West Busch Boulevard.

Moore was seen on video at the detention center on Sunday around 10:30 a.m. Video provided by a nearby business showed running westbound from the facility around 10:45 a.m., police said.

He was taken back into custody with help from the U.S. Marshals Task Force just after 9:15 p.m.

“Tonight, the family of Jevario Buie and our community can rest knowing a dangerous individual is back in custody,” Chief Lee Bercaw said. “I am incredibly appreciative of the officers who worked tirelessly since this morning when they were alerted of Moore’s escape. Let this be a reminder to those who think they can evade Tampa police, they cannot, and they will be held accountable.”
