Exploring South Tampa's Million-Dollar Homes

There are 752 South Tampa homes assessed at $1 million or more — about half as many as there were five years ago.

Did you know there are 752 million-dollar homes in South Tampa?

That's still less than half as many as there were in 2007 at the height of the real estate boom, according to TBO.com's recent review of Hillsborough County property records.

"Back in 2007, there were 2,314 homes assessed by the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser's Office at $1 million or more — including 1,341 in South Tampa," the report states.

Now there are 1,125 million-dollar homes countywide as property values have taken a nosedive. Still, two-thirds of Hillsborough's million-dollar residences, including 18 of the 20 most valuable single-family homes, are here in South Tampa, according to the article.

Many of those belong to famous names like Bryan Glazer ($5.5 million), Jeffrey Vinik ($4.7 million), David Straz ($3.9 million), Joan Steinbrenner ($3.8 million) and Joel Glazer ($3.6 million), TBO.com reports. Topping them all is the $8.6 million Davis Islands mansion owned by New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, which is Hillsborough's most valuable home.
