HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A man ran from a crash site on Christmas Eve night and hid in a construction site, where deputies found him making “dirt angels,” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post.

Deputies responded to the single-vehicle crash at E. Bearss Avenue and N. Nebraska Avenue just after 7 p.m.

The driver, Eliezer Armando Reyes Rios, 34, ran from the scene after they spoke with him. He climbed a fence and ran into a large construction site, the sheriff’s office said.

Reyes Rios hid down in a pit in the soil, “at times perhaps feeling the holiday spirit, making ‘dirt angels’ and making calls on his phone,” HCSO said.

He suddenly got up and climbed back over the fence, where he found three deputies and a K-9 waiting for him.

He was arrested and faces several charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, trespassing on a construction site, and driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license.
