Florida's 40 Safest Cities For Driving Ranked
The folks at Obrella crunched numbers to develop a ranking of Florida's safest places for drivers. Tampa Bay towns are well represented.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Bay area might be known for rush-hour gridlock, but many communities within its bounds rank fairly well overall when it comes to driving safety.
That’s according to the folks at Obrella, a free information website designed to help consumers find insurance coverage. To create its “Top 40 Safest Cities For Driving In Florida” rankings, Obrella “consulted the most recent data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration,” the website explained. “From there, we looked at how many fatalities resulted from car accidents and compared that data to population numbers to ascertain how many fatalities there were per 100,000 residents.”
When all was said and done, north Florida’s Crawfordville came in first place with Lake Butler, Sanford, Monticello and Macclenny rounding out the top five spots.
Tampa Bay area cities that earned honors on the Top 40 list are as follows:
- Spring Hill, ranked 14th
- Tampa, ranked 21st
- St. Petersburg, ranked 23rd
- Sarasota, ranked 33rd
- New Port Richey, ranked 35th
According to Obrella, the counties with the highest number of vehicular fatalities per 100,000 residents are Levy, Hardee, Jackson, Suwannee and Hamilton.
