Two years ago, local Tampa resident Adrienne received her first skin cancer diagnosis and she had it removed via Mohs surgery.

“It was fairly invasive; and needed fifteen stitches or so,” she recalls.

So when Adrienne received a second diagnosis of a cancerous spot under her eye, she was eager to try a brand new innovative treatment called electron beam therapy.

Electron beam therapy by IntraOp is a bladeless treatment solution for many types of skin cancer and it is only available in two places in the United States, one of those being ForCare Medical Center in Tampa.

A few of the benefits of electron therapy over surgery are:

  • No scarring or deformities
  • Less pain, or no pain
  • No downtime
  • Patients can resume normal activities immediately
  • Quick (most patients are in and out in 10 minutes)

“Electron beam therapy can replace surgery for many patients over the age of 50,” said
ForCare Medical Center Founder Dr. Seth B. Forman, explaining that after treatment, patients will be able to resume normal activities immediately. “Patients don’t need to stop medications such as blood thinners, as they would likely need to if undergoing surgery. Immediately following treatment, patients are able to play tennis, run, or go back to work without restrictions.”

“For me, it was a really good alternative to surgery, and four weeks after my last session, the results are perfect and it is impossible to tell that I had even had any medical treatment,”
Adrienne says.

She speaks positively of her experience. “There was no pain at all, and it simply entailed a ten-minute daily visit to the Doctor’s offices. The team there was very caring and professional”.

As CFO for a local company, Adrienne has an indoor job. But, she likes to be outside in her spare time, especially gardening, playing golf, and tennis.

“Now I’m taking the risk of skin cancer much more seriously,” says the Sunshine State resident.
She wears hats, sunscreen, and protective clothing.

Electron beam therapy is administered by radiation oncologists at ForCare Medical Center and allows precise depth control and tight borders, especially around sensitive areas such as eyelids, lips, and ears, for non-melanoma cancers.
