TAMPA, FL — A retired federal law enforcement officer and the former mayor of Brooksville, Florida, has been arrested and charged after Tampa Homeland Security agents found images of children being sexually abused on his home computer, including photos taken in his home with a hidden camera.

According to the criminal complaint, in September and December, investigators with the U.S. Department of Justice's child exploitation and obscenity section identified an internet protocol address that was distributing images and a video depicting child pornography. They traced the IP address to the Brooksville home of Kevin Hohn, 65.

On Feb. 19, investigators executed a search warrant at Hohn’s home. When they entered the home, they found Hohn sitting at a computer connected to an external hard drive in his home office.

On the external hard drive were more than 100 images showing children being sexually abused. Among them were child pornography recorded inside Hohn’s home with a hidden camera.

From August 1983 to June 2005, Hohn was a special agent with the Internal Revenue Service's criminal investigation division, conducting criminal investigations for financial crimes involving tax evasion, organized crime, narcotics, public corruption and counterterrorism.

In that time, Hohn assisted 12 foreign governments, including Russia and its former republics, in establishing money laundering legislation and banking regulations. He also developed and taught a money laundering course at the FBI Academy.

Hohn was elected to the Brooksville City Council in 2011 and became mayor in 2014, serving for one term. Last year, he ran for the Hernando County Commission but lost.

If convicted, Hohn faces up to 20 years in federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Tampa office of Homeland Security with assistance from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
