Gandy Chick-fil-A's Impending Opening Attracts Crowd

More than 100 people have been camped onsite since 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The brand new Gandy Boulevard Chick-fil-A is guaranteed a crowd when it opens for business for the first time Thursday.

About 150 people had gathered outside the 3678 W. Gandy Blvd. business before 6 a.m. Wednesday. The first 100 people in line when the store opens at 6 a.m. Thursday will get free Chick-fil-A for a year.

“Of the 150 people who arrived at 6 a.m., 100 names were drawn with those winning the drawing hoping to win free Chick-fil-A for a year when the doors open,” store spokeswoman Cindy Chapman wrote in an email. “The additional 40 people include 10 alternates and about 30 “guests” – children and others who are participating in the events but who are not eligible to win.”

Campers are passing the time until Thursday morning by playing games, working and chatting, Chapman said. A DJ will be onsite this evening to host a dance party, as well.

The new restaurant brings 80 jobs to the area. It will be open Mondays through Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Like all restaurants in the chain, it will close on Sundays.
