Girls Inc. of Sarasota County welcomes new executive director

Girls Inc. of Sarasota County (GirlsIncSrq.org), a nonprofit organization that focuses on innovative programs to help prepare young women to lead successful, independent and healthy lives, recently recruited Angie Stringer, a former employee, as the nonprofit’s newest executive director.

Stringer, most recently the director of major gifts at Sarasota-based Children First, will begin in her new role at Girls Inc. on August 31, 2015. Robin Rose, who had successfully led the award-winning organization as the executive director for the past two years, is relocating to St. Augustine to be closer to her husband.

Stringer brings over 20 years of knowledge in the nonprofit sector, and her experience spans almost every aspect of nonprofit management, including direct program supervision, program development, strategic planning, staff management, fiscal planning as well as extensive experience in fundraising and marketing.

“Angie is a past Girls Inc. employee,” said Jennifer Compton, board president of Girls Inc. and an attorney with Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick. “She worked for Girls Inc. for four years, left eight years ago and is now coming home. We could not be more pleased to welcome her back at this important time as we embark on new growth initiatives. We know she is the right person to build upon the foundation laid and lead Girls Inc. to the next level as we continue to significantly impact the lives of young girls.”

Girls Inc. will kick off its summer campaign this month, with a mission to raise $70,000 in 30 days. Beginning July 27, the 30-day challenge is an opportunity to match Donna Brace Ogilivie’s $70,000 gift to provide scholarships for girls for the fall and spring of the next fiscal year.

The nonprofit organization has experienced tremendous growth and has marked new milestones over the past two years, including the complete retirement of the Nadel settlement debt, its most successful annual luncheon in the organization’s 27-year history and the launch of several nationally acclaimed programs, such as the Code Initiative, Champions for Girls giving circle and the High School Initiative. Girls Inc. of Sarasota County was also recently designated as a national pilot site for the Literacy Program and awarded the Kellogg Foundation grant.
