Chris Sharek Shares His Green Journey

It might not be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but Chris Sharek’s Chevy Volt averages 219 miles per gallon, is made in America, and is the car of the future.  Sharek will talk about his experience as a green car owner, using renewable energy sources, and supporting the American automotive industry at a luncheon on Friday, April 18 at the Goodwill North Trail Community Room, at 5150 N Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. Sharek wrote an e-book in 2013, titled “The Electric Vehicle rEVolution”, which summarizes his first 26,000 miles or almost two years of his electric car ownership experience.   During a dedication ceremony for a public charging station in downtown Sarasota, Sharek met the famed author Stephen King, who also drives a Chevy Volt.  “When I humbly asked him to autograph a novel for me, Mr. King gladly signed it ‘From one Volt owner to another,’ and he even implied further support after reading the book,” Sharek noted.

“I was tired of hearing people brag about their green vehicles getting 50 MPG, while I was getting more than four times that!” said Sharek.  “Americans need to know that there is a vehicle for sale TODAY that gets this kind of mileage and it’s built in Detroit.”

Goodwill is a leader in the going green philosophy and is a pioneer of the recycle, repurpose and reuse concept.  Goodwill’s newest location on the North Trail also has two charging stations. Last year, Goodwill diverted more than 37 million pounds from area landfills.
