TAMPA, FL — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that Walgreens is increasing the number of stores offering coronavirus vaccines to 97 across 19 counties. Appointments are now open to begin vaccinations Friday.

Beginning Monday, the age of eligibility to receive a vaccine will be lowered to 60 years and older.

The governor’s Seniors First strategy has prioritized the state’s senior citizens to receive the vaccine. Florida now lead the nation for the most seniors vaccinated in any state.

To date, Florida has vaccinated more than 2.7 million seniors, which is more than 58 percent of the roughly 4.4 million seniors living in the state.

The governor is continuing to host pop-up vaccination clinics at senior living communities throughout the state. Additionally, the Department of Health and the Division of Emergency Management are partnering with retail pharmacies including Publix, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Sam’s Club and Winn-Dixie to implement a vaccination program for homebound residents.
