Hillsborough County residents who want to turn their unwanted firearms into cold, hard cash are asked to stop by River Tower Park Saturday.
Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., the Tampa Police Department will be at the 401 E. Bird St. park offering to take weapons off residents’ hands. Those who turn in guns, during the “no-questions-asked” event, will receive $50 in return. The Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation is underwriting the buyback through a $50,000 donation. Coca-Cola Beverages Florida is providing free drinks.
Turn ins are being handled on an anonymous basis, the department said. People can trade in shotguns, assault rifles and handguns for cash. Pellet guns, starter pistols, BB guns, antique guns and flare guns are not eligible, the department noted in an email to media.

While officers will be stationed at the park to exchange cash for guns, mobile teams will also be available for residents who cannot transport their guns personally. To arrange a pickup, call 813-231-6130.
Residents who do bring in guns are asked to make sure they are stored, unloaded, inside plastic bags and placed in their vehicles’ trunks. The program is open to residents of Hillsborough County.
