Halfacre Construction Company donates $20,000 to Community Haven
Halfacre Construction Company recently donated $20,000 to Community Haven, a nonprofit that helps meet the needs of those with disabilities.

Halfacre Construction Company (HalfacreConstruction.com), the area’s oldest, most established, locally owned and operated private commercial construction company, recently donated $20,000 to Community Haven, a 60-year-old nonprofit that helps meet the needs of those with disabilities.
The Lakewood Ranch-based construction company’s generous contribution will be used for the building and completion of Marlene’s House, a 4,800-square-foot group home, and its many expenses. Halfacre Construction Company completed two previous projects for Community Haven and is the contractor on this $750,000 project.
Located at 4405 DeSoto Road in Sarasota, Marlene’s House is the fifth and will be the newest group home at Community Haven, which is slated for completion in October 2015. This family-style setting is a more unique than the previous four group homes because the co-ed living quarters will have a single-room configuration for eight adults with a house parent.

“Community Haven is so grateful for our partnership with Halfacre Construction Company,” said Marla Doss, president and CEO of Community Haven. “It’s been a great relationship, starting with the building of Jacquelyn’s House, the renovation of our Selby building and now Marlene’s house. We are very appreciative of this donation, which will greatly benefit those we serve.”
This is the first project to come to fruition since Community Haven underwent an extensive rezone endeavor last year to develop its 32-acre campus to meet the community’s existing and future needs.

Community Haven opened a group home, Jacquelyn’s House, in June 2013. It houses nine clients, with two residents to a room. The renovated Selby building now includes a computer-training lab, athletic quad and the Selby School, a McKay Scholarship school that serves students between the ages of 14 - 22.
