TAMPA, FL — Investigators suspect arson in a South Tampa house fire early Tuesday morning.

Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 6200 block of South Church Avenue shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday and found heavy smoke coming from the single-story residence.

The occupant of the home, an elderly woman, was able to escape the home without injuries.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 4:30 a.m.

The resident is being assisted by the Red Cross.

An investigator from the fire marshal's office suspects the fire is the result of arson. Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $100,000.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Fire Marshal's Office at (813) 274-7000 or use the anonymous tips page. Rewards of up to $2,500 or more are available for information leading to the identification of those involved in arson fires.
