Jameis Winston: Did the Bucs Make The Right Call?

The team selected the controversial quarterback as its first-round pick. What are your thoughts on the choice?

The speculation is over.

Jameis Winston is coming to Tampa as the Bucs’ first overall draft pick. The former Florida State quarterback is a controversial figure courtesy of sexual assault allegations, a shoplifting snafu and a few other colorful incidents during his days at FSU.

Even so, the Bucs seem to see a diamond in the rough; a potential franchise quarterback that might lead the team to better days on the gridiron.

“He’s a champion, he’s a leader, he’s a winner,” Bucs’ general manager Jason Licht was quoted by The Tampa Tribune as saying. “And, his work ethic was one thing that really put him over the top for us, combined with his leadership and, I hate to say it, but for lack of a better word, that ‘it’ factor.”

Winston, a former Heisman Trophy-winner, told interviewers he was “elated” with the franchise’s choice.

He even has a plan to win over Tampa Bay fans.

“It’s all about working hard,” Winston told Buccaneers.com. “Actions speak so much louder than words. So, for you, sir, I’m just going to work my tail off. That’s what any good man in this country would do.”
