Javic Homes Tours All Children's Hospital

By Jessica Hohman

As the New Year approaches, consider opting out of your annual weight loss resolution that you never keep, and instead commit to donating your time or funds to a worthy cause, such as All Children’s Hospital (ACH) located in St. Petersburg, FL.

ACH is one of the non-profit partners for Javic’s Southern Living Custom Builder Showcase Home opening March 27, 2014, and recently their wonderful staff was gracious enough to lead a guided tour of their sprawling main campus to the Javic team.

It is important to understand All Children’s Hospital's history, to fully appreciate the steps forward they have made.  In 1926, members of the America Legion Post 14 conducted a midnight raid to save local crippled children from the deplorable conditions and treatment they faced, thus creating the American Legion Hospital for Crippled Children.  Since then, All Children’s Hospital has become a 10-story, 259-bed, hurricane resistant facility designed from the input of patients and their families.

The mission of All Children’s is clear and definite:

“To provide leadership in child health through treatment, education, advocacy and research.”

It is obvious through their staff’s passion, the impressive main campus and their recent partnership with John’s Hopkins Medicine (JHM) that they are accomplishing this mission daily.  All Children’s became the first fully integrated member of John’s Hopkins Medicine in the U.S. outside of the DC area in 2011, providing access to research as well as the opportunity to serve on JHM committees.

A quote by Carl Sandburg that can be heard in the halls of the hospital says, “There is only one child in the world, and that child’s name is All Children.” To learn more about how you can make a difference at All Children’s Hospital by making a donation, volunteering, or honoring a loved one, visit the All Children’s Hospital Foundation page here.
