Javic Visits Georgia Southern Living Showcase Homes

Jessica Hohman and I traveled 600 miles NORTH to visit two Southern Living Showcase Homes.  Our mission was to learn about best practices to ensure Javic’s first Southern Living Showcase home, which opens Spring 2014, is a success!  We walked away with something much more important; a true feeling of what makes a Southern Living Showcase home different from a model home.

Don’t get me wrong we walked away with expert advice from Dillard Jones Builders, in Toccoa, GA about signage and setting up an amazing expo hall to feature all of our wonderful partners and sponsors.  And, just like any model home we saw unique design elements like a tabby wall shower and breathtaking blue oyster granite at Georgia Coast Design & Construction on St Simons Island, GA.

But, the most important lesson is that Southern Living Showcase Homes are more than just a model home!  They provide an opportunity for folks to work together to raise money for a worthy cause, while at the same time celebrating all the that is right with hospitality and graciousness.  While on St. Simons Island, Jessica and I were able to spend some time with Bert Flexer, founder of Georgia Coast Design & Construction and his lovely wife of 35+ years, Gail.  It was the first day that their home was open, and after working countless hours to get everything done, they still agreed to meet with us for 15 minutes to give us some tips!  After the home closed for the day, Gail smiled and said, “Ya’ll want a beer while we talk on the porch?”  Two hours later, Jessica and I came to fully understand that a Southern Living Showcase home is different than a model home because it is about welcoming friends, new and old, in a beautiful setting.

The 2014 Tampa Southern Living Showcase Home, designed and constructed by Tampa custom home builder, Javic Homes, will be open to the public for 7 weeks in Spring 2014.  The nearly 5,000 square foot home sits on the waterfront in the Beach Park neighborhood of South Tampa.  All proceeds from charged admission will benefit our two charitable partners, Operation FINALLY Home and All Children’s Hospital.

Javic Homes is looking forward to extending our hospitality in Spring 2014!  Hope ya’ll come!
