John Lynch to Join Buccaneers Ring of Honor
The former Tampa Bay safety is also a Hall of Fame finalist.
TAMPA, FL — Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety John Lynch is officially joining the team’s Ring of Honor.
Bucs’ co-chairman Joel Glazer made the announcement Friday. The honor means Lynch’s name and No. 47 will be added to the Raymond James Stadium façade during halftime at a game in the 2016 season. The date won’t be set until the 2016 schedule is released in the spring, the team announced on its website Friday. Lynch will be the ninth person to be honored on the Ring. Other honorees are Lee Roy Selmon, John McKay, Paul Gruber, Jimmie Giles, Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, Doug Williams and Mike Alstott.
“In John Lynch, we had Hall of Fame character, we had Hall of Fame dedication, we had Hall of Fame involvement in the community, and week-in and week-out you saw Hall of Fame play on the field,” Glazer said at Friday’s conference.

Lynch was a third round draft pick for the Buccaneers in 1993. He played for the team until the end of the 2003 season. He was picked up by the Denver Broncos before the kickoff of the 2004 season and announced his retirement from the NFL in November 2008 while in Tampa.
Lynch has been a Hall of Fame finalist for the past three years. He’ll find out Feb. 6 if he joins Selmon, Brooks and Sapp as former Buccaneers to earn the honor.
