Teen Fatally Shot In Chest At Tampa McDonald's; Detectives Seek Leads

Detectives believe the 16-year-old fired back at his shooter. A 9 mm handgun was found next to his body.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa police detectives are searching for the person responsible for shooting and killing a 16-year-old boy at a Tampa McDonald's restaurant Tuesday night.

At 8:47 p.m., officers were called to the McDonald's at 4009 N Armenia Ave. for a shooting in the parking lot and found the 16-year-old lying on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. There was a 9 mm handgun and several shell casings next to him.

Witnesses told police the teen was walking through the south side of the parking lot with a group of friends just before the shooting.

They said they heard gunshots and saw a vehicle leaving the parking lot but they didn't see the shooter.

The friends of the teen fled the scene on foot before officers arrived, leaving him behind.

Just before the shooting, the teen had been identified by Tampa police detectives as a suspect in an armed robbery.

At this time, detectives believe the teen was shot and killed as he fired shots at the fleeing vehicle.
