Mom Gives Birth Naturally to 14-Pound Boy

The unexpected arrival has set a record at Tampa's St. Joseph's Women's Hospital.

A bouncing baby boy born at a Tampa hospital doesn’t quite break a world’s record in weight, but he’s made local history.

Avery Denton bounded into the world Jan. 29 courtesy of a natural birth, weighing in at 14.1 pounds, according to officials at St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital. The not-so-little guy is the largest born at St. Joe’s and one of the biggest ever born in Florida.

Though he’s quite sizeable, Avery doesn’t come close to the 22-pound, 8-ounce boy born back in 1955 in Aversa, Italy. That boy holds the Guinness World Record to this day, according to the Guinness website.

While Avery’s arrival is big news for the Ford family to be sure, his size isn’t the only unusual twist in his story. It seems his mother, Maxxzandra Ford, was tipped off about his impending arrival back in the fall when she started to put on weight rather rapidly.

As a mother of two already, Maxxzandra suspected she was pregnant. Since she herself is a twin, she figured that she might be expecting two babies, as well.

What she didn’t figure, however, was revealed in her first doctor’s appointment when she discovered she was already 35 weeks along, the hospital’s media release stated.

Maxxzandra Ford works at St. Joseph’s Hospital and has a 1-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter in addition to baby Avery.
