Perez, Simic Lead Hillsborough School Board Races: Unofficial Results

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — Voters in Tampa and across Hillsborough County took to the polls in Tuesday’s primary election in a number of races, including federal, state and local elections.

Among them, residents had their say in two Manatee County School Board races and three Manatee County Commission elections.

Hillsborough County School Board

Incumbent Karen Perez retained a significant lead in the Hillsborough County School Board District 6 race late Tuesday night, as of 11:25 p.m., unofficial results show.

Perez earned about 48.27 percent of the vote, while her opponents, Ken Gay and Sally Harris Williamson took home 27.23 percent and 24.5 percent, respectively, according to the unofficial results.

The school board’s District 2 race remained tight late Tuesday with Daniela Simic holding a slight edge over her opponents.

Simic won 38.73 percent of the vote, while Brittany Lyssa earned 36.84, the unofficial results show.

A third candidate, Chris Taylor, won 24.43 percent of the vote, unofficial results said.

Hillsborough County Commission

Stacy Hahn held the lead in the Republican primary for the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners District 5 seat on Tuesday, as of 11:25 p.m., unofficial results show.

Hahn earned 54.9 percent of the vote compared to her opponent, Donna Cameron Cepeda, who took home 45.10 percent, unofficial results said.

The winner in this race faces Democratic candidate Neil Manimala in the Nov 3 general election.

Democrats also chose their party’s representatives in the District 3 and District 7 races.

In District 3, incumbent Gwen Myers held a lead over her opponent, Twanda E. Bradley, with 69.48 percent of the vote, compared to 30.52 percent, the unofficial results show.

The winner in this race will go head to head with the Republican candidate, Luiz F. F. Garcia, in the general election.

Aileen Rodriguez held the lead for the Democratic nod in the District 7 race with 62.35 percent of the vote, the unofficial results show. Her opponent, Cindy Stuart, earned 37.65 percent.

The winner in this race faces Republican Joshua Wostal, the incumbent, on Nov. 3.
