Rare Baby Hippo Has a New Name
The votes have been counted and Lowry Park Zoo's recent arrival has a name that's a fan favorite.

The 3-week-old baby pygmy hippo that calls Lowry Park Zoo home is beautiful.
Thatâs according to those who voted to name the little critter Zuri, which means beautiful in Swahili.
The zoo announced the results of the online vote to name the hippo during a Nov. 1 baby shower. They also made sure to let fans know the final decision via the Lowry Park Zoo Facebook page.

Zuri was born Oct. 11 and was dubbed âpumpkinâ by zoo staff until a more appropriate name could be found for the rare creature. The 14.5-pound baby is one of 30 pygmy hippos in North America and one of an estimated 3,000 worldwide, zoo officials say.
Considering her distinct heritage, the zoo wanted to make sure she had an appropriate Swahili name. The other choices were Zahra, which means flower, and Zawadi, which means gift.
