Red Light Camera Violations Will Soon Cost $158
Drivers caught making a red-light violation at one of seven South Tampa intersections with cameras will receive a $158 citation starting Nov. 1.

Drivers caught making a red-light violation on camera have received just a warning so far.
But things are about to change.
Starting Nov. 1, running a red light with safety cameras installed will cost drivers a $158 fine.

The City of Tampa activated 23 intersection safety cameras as part of its Stop on Red Tampa safety program at the beginning of the month.
According to the City of Tampa's website, more than 50 percent of Hillsborough County red-light crashes occurred within the city of Tampa for three years in a row. In 2010 alone, the number of intersection crashes caused by red-light violations in Hillsborough County totaled 642, with 371 of those crashes coming from the city of Tampa.

The following South Tampa intersections are equipped with safety cameras, each intersection marked clearly with a sign:
- Eastbound West Kennedy Boulevard and North Ashley Drive
- Southbound South Dale Mabry Highway and West Gandy Boulevard
- Eastbound West Gandy Boulevard and South Dale Mabry Highway
- Westbound West Gandy Boulevard and South Westshore Boulevard
- Eastbound West Gandy Boulevard and South Westshore Boulevard
- Southbound South Manhattan Avenue and West Gandy Boulevard
- Northbound South Westshore Boulevard and West Gandy Boulevard
