Red Wings Fan Charged in Lightning Game Arson

Tampa police say the overzealous fan set a Bolts flag on fire.

The Lightning’s 2-0 victory over the Red Wings during Wednesday night’s last game in round one of the Stanley Cup playoffs wasn’t good news for everyone.

It seems a 35-year-old woman from Sterling Heights, Mich., took her disappointment over Detroit’s loss a little too far.

The woman is accused of torching a Bolts flag as it was passed around the crowd.

“There were approximately 200 people under the flag at the time of the offense,” an email to media from the Tampa Police Department explained.

The woman is accused using a lighter in an attempt to torch the flag. She managed to cause a “small burn” on the flag for her alleged efforts.

Tampa Fire Rescue’s arson investigators were called out to the Amalie Arena to help with the investigation.

When all was said and done, the Lightning clinched a spot in round two of the playoffs, while Lena Sinishtaj now faces first-degree arson charges.

Sinishtaj was being held at the Hillsborough County Jail Thursday morning without bond.

The Lightning meanwhile are gearing up for their first game of round two action against the Montreal Canadiens on Friday. The team plays in Montreal with a 7 p.m. start time announced by the NHL. The Bolts return home for games three and four in the series starting May 6.
