The Refinery, Bern's Up For National Honors
The James Beard Foundation has released its list of Restaurant and Chef Awards semifinalists with two Tampa Bay eateries making the cut.

TAMPA, FL — Two Tampa dining establishments are up for national honors in the James Beard Foundation’s 2016 Restaurant and Chef Awards.
The foundation released its semifinalists from across the country Wednesday in such categories as Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Baker and Outstanding Chef. The Tampa nominees and their categories are:
- Bern’s Steakhouse – Outstanding Wine Program
- Greg Baker, The Refinery – Best Chef, South
The final list of nominees will be released on March 15 in San Francisco with an announcement of winners set for May 2, during an awards gala in Chicago.

For the past 26 years, the foundation, which is dedicated to culinary excellence, has picked the most outstanding establishments from across the country to earn national honors in a variety of categories. The selection process begins with an open online call in October that enables people to submit up to two entries per category.
Bern’s and Baker were both semifinalists in last year’s competition, as well.
