TAMPA, FL — Retired NFL fullback Mike Sellers has returned home with his family after receiving a life-saving heart transplant at the Tampa General Hospital Transplant Institute, according to a news release from the hospital.

The 48-year-old played professional football for 18 years. He was the youngest player to sign a Canadian Football League deal when he played for the Edmonton Eskimos at 18 years old.

He went on to play in the NFL for the Washington Redskins (now the Commanders), as well as the Cleveland Browns.

Sellers, who lives in the Tampa Bay area, spent four months in the hospital, receiving his heart transplant on April 15, TGH said.

After months of recovery, he went home with his wife, Jane, and children this past week.
